New York Auto Accident Statistics
Many people are injured in car accidents every day, many resulting in significant injuries requiring medical treatment and recovery. “Trauma” is the medical term for injury. Park Avenue Trauma is a facility and group of physicians whose entire mission is the optimal diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of injuries, including car accidents (New York State No-Fault).
Across the state of New York, there were 447,021 auto accidents in 2019. Of those accidents, there were 881 fatalities, 121,068 that involved some type of personal injury, and 325,072 that involved property damage. In 2019 29% of crashes involved a single vehicle, and 71% percent of crashes involved multiple vehicles.
With 27.08% of auto accidents in New York involving personal injury, the chances of needing medical attention and rehabilitation if you are in an auto accident are significant. These injuries happen even though a record 94% of New Yorkers use seat belts when in a passenger vehicle, according to a 2019 survey. The tables below provide some additional information on the breakdown of auto crashes in New York in 2019.
